It seems to be the week for promising news and potential…the Egyptian revolution and fall of Mubarak have been widely welcomed in Palestine – http://electronicintifada.net/v2/article11800.shtml
And here in Tower Hamlets, a significant motion has been passed to support the boycott of Israel. Tower Hamlets voted “to do everything in its power” to support the boycott in our borough. The news has been covered in the appropriately concerned Jewish Chronicle http://www.thejc.com/community/community-life/44974/tower-hamlets-council-backs-israel-boycott; a sign of the growing significance of BDS in putting pressure upon Israel to end its illegal occupation and siege of Gaza. We congratulate the council on its laudable decision to support Palestine in overcoming oppression through BDS, specifically to review its contracts with Veolia and not to renew them.
We will be writing to the mayor to express our support for this motion and hopes that he will act upon it. Any accurate review of Veolia would show its crucial role in the Israeli occupation and therefore should lead to an immediate termination of its contract with the borough.
