THJFA/TH PSC Monthly Meeting
Thursday 5th Novemeber at 7pm we will be having our monthly meeting at our regular venue: the basement of UNITE Community Centre, Old Town Hall, 236 Cable Street, E1 OBL (nearest Tube/ Overground Shadwell). As well as reviewing our latest twinning visit, we will be looking at nominating new people to take on roles important to THJFA and THPSC.
In the last month, 29 Palestinians have been killed, over 270 arrested and 2700 injured by the Israeli military and the settlers they protect. At the time of writing, 8 Israelis have also been killed and dozens more injured. We can’t bring any of them back but we do have a way to fight back by demanding that this brutal occupation ends.
THJFA and TH PSC will be joining the protest called by Palestine Solidarity Campaign and a coalition of allies. Please join us on Saturday 12-2pm outside the Israeli Embassy to demand an end to the Israeli occupation responsible for these atrocities.
We are meeting on the corner of High Street Kensington and Palace Green, W8 at midday.
On Friday 9th October, THJFA held a very productive meeting with Tower Hamlets Mayor John Biggs, Deputy Mayor Rachael Saunders, and Speaker Abdul Mukit.
They all listened with great interest to Yousef Awad from Jenin , who told personal stories about the effects of the Israeli occupation on his life, and we reflected on the current violations that Israel is perpetrating on Palestinians who live under military occupation.
We discussed, in some detail, strengthening the links between our communities, and all were invited to visit Jenin and Palestine. See pictures of the visit here.
From October 6th to 16th, the Tower Hamlets Jenin Friendship Association (THJFA) will be hosting three delegates from the Palestinian Authority on an information and cultural exchange to the borough.
THJFA has been working for a decade to build links between the Borough and the province of Jenin in the north of Palestine. The visit is planned to further strengthen solidarity and understanding between our residents and theirs.
The delegation will meet politicians and trades unionists and visit teachers, lecturers and students, as well as enjoying some tourism in London.
A highlight will be an East End History Walk with David Rosenberg, who will show us some of the rich history of migrants of different religions into Tower Hamlets.
The visitors are:
Yousef Awad, director of International Relations for the Governor of Jenin Province.
Maysoun Dawoud, Public Relations Manager for the Mayor of Jenin City
Ahmed AlQuassem, Deputy Governor of Jenin province.
Unfortunately, Israeli authorities prevented Maysoun and Ahmed from leaving the West Bank in occupied Palestine to travel to Jordan for their flights to London.

The PRCS has declared a level 3 state of emergency in the West Bank and East Jerusalem in response to increased attacks by Israeli soldiers and illegal settlers against Palestinians.

THJFA has a new postcard with a straightforward message: Israeli Apartheid: I’m Not Buying It! Come along to one of our events or stalls to pick some up, and help us distribute them around the borough!
THJFA and Tower Hamlets PSC are delighted to announce that we will be welcoming three visitors from Jenin to Tower Hamlets from Tuesday 6th until Friday 16th October. They will be received in the borough by politicians, trade unions, students and teachers.
